There’s no denying that Xiaomi likes to stuff its premium flagship smartphones to the gills with the latest cutting-edge components that the company can get its hands on. The upcoming Mi 12 smartphone was already looking like an intimidating competitor for its future rivals, and now it seems the Xiaomi Mi 12 will also get LPDDR5X RAM joining its potential Snapdragon 898 processor and 192 MP camera sensor (200 MP alleged for the Mi 12 Ultra).
Ice Universe claims both the Xiaomi Mi 12 and Samsung Galaxy S22 will take advantage of the benefits delivered by LPDDR5X RAM, which offers a significant boost in read rate over its predecessors. Compared to LPDDR5 (used in the Mi 11, Mi 10, etc.) the latest standard can operate at up to +33.3% speeds: 8,533 Mbps vs. 6,400 Mbps. That percentage figure becomes a whopping +100% for LPDDR5X when compared to LPDDR4X (Xiaomi Mi 9): 8,533 Mbps vs. 4,266 Mbps.
As the current Snapdragon 888 SoC supports LPDDR5, it makes sense that a new chip will have to be introduced if the Xiaomi Mi 12 is going to whizz along with LPDDR5X RAM. This lends weight to the rumor that the Mi 12 will boast of the Snapdragon 898 chip (name unconfirmed but previously known as the Snapdragon 895), which will likely support this latest RAM extension. Along with 192 MP or 200 MP cameras, 120 W wired charging, 100 W wireless charging, and a 2K 1-120 Hz adaptive display, rumors about the Mi 12 series point to some superlative smartphones currently in development.
