Earlier today, we reported on a retailer potentially revealing launch titles and pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2. Only a few hours later, new developments have surfaced online relating to the console's release date.
To recap, Nintendo previously outlined that it would be unveiling new hardware sometime this quarter. Although that window would allow a Switch 2 to arrive anytime until March 31, a recent rumour put forward the date of January 17 as when Nintendo would lift the lid on its Switch and Switch OLED successor (curr. $274.99 - renewed on Amazon).
Various reliable sources have now coalesced around the notion that a Switch 2 announcement will be happening this week, including Tom Warren of The Verge. However, the typically well-informed Nate the Hate claims to have been told that this hardware reveal will actually occur on January 16.
Reportedly, Nintendo will follow this presentation with a game showcase towards the end of February. In other words, it seems unlikely that the console will ship this quarter. Instead, a late spring release is apparently on the cards in May or June. For reference, the design of the so-called Switch 2 has already leaked online, as has a hands-on look at one of its new Joy-Con controllers.
