A new social media post has made the extraordinary claim of knowing both the Nintendo Switch 2 release date and price. In addition, the same source shares Home Menu images that are supposedly for the next-gen console. However, recent comments made by Nintendo chief Shuntaro Furukawa offer the only confirmable truths about any Switch successor hardware.

It seems it is quite difficult to build a reputation as a leaker, but apparent and persistent failure hasn’t stopped one source from trying their best to inform the world about the Nintendo Switch 2…or in this case “Nintendo’s next system”, and in other reports, the “Nintendo Focus”. Whether it is the same person posting on X (fka Twitter) and Reddit with these supposed leaks is unclear, but they do seem insistent about certain things, including the Nintendo Switch 2 release date and price.

The vital information is posted alongside images that the OP claims are of the Home Menu for the Switch successor, and previously deleted posts have shown more images that have been circulating on various online forums for some time now. All the images are posted below, although it is deeply unlikely any of them were sourced from, or are headed to, the Nintendo Switch 2. But a release date of October 2024 is stated as is a unit cost of US$429.99. This is suspiciously the same figure that was given in a now deleted Reddit post that claimed US$429.99 was the price for a premium edition "Nintendo Focus" while US$399.99 would be the cost for a standard model.

Interestingly, the would-be leaker has tagged in both RGT 85 and OJ PlayerEssence with this alleged Nintendo Switch 2 leak, presumably with the hope of some popular YouTuber coverage. But this latest purported NG Switch leak doesn’t really sit well with what the company’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, has been saying about hardware development at the moment. In an interview with NHK, the executive was pushed to comment on the Switch successor, but he would only state, “We are constantly developing various hardware, but I can't say anything specific here." He then offered a little more detail about Nintendo’s ideology in this realm:

We are not focusing on any particular technology at the moment, but we are conducting research and development on the latest technologies. Rather than simply pursuing the latest technology, what is very important to us is how the game itself will be transformed when we introduce a new technology. If we are convinced that our customers will experience a fresh surprise by adopting this technology, we will research the technology more voraciously and invest in it when necessary.
