After appearing in news a few days prior, Casio has finally made the MTGB2000YBD2 purchasable in the United States. It's the newest addition to its MT-G lineup, and it's built with a carbon-steel construction, designed around Casio’s proprietary Dual Core Guard structure. The rugged, analog timepiece features both high-performance materials and the refined design expected from the MT-G series. The official price stands at $1,200, confirming past leaks.
The watch’s core is reinforced with a carbon monocoque case surrounded by stainless steel components, giving it both shock resistance and reduced weight. The bezel structure takes things a step further by incorporating carbon fiber laminated with glass fibers, precision-cut and wrapped strategically to maximize durability around key impact zones.
It’s not just about toughness, though. The MTGB2000YBD2 is finished with a blue-gray ion-plated top bezel and buttons, paired with a black base for a two-tone contrast. Sallaz polishing on the bevelled edges adds a sense of refinement which is rarely seen on a watch that can survive pretty harsh conditions.
Functionality-wise, the watch is solar-powered and connects via Bluetooth to the Casio Watches app for time syncing and other updates. It also supports radio-controlled timekeeping via Multi-Band 6 and can automatically adjust to atomic clock signals in Japan, the US, Europe, and China. You also get the standard MT-G features: full-auto calendar (to 2099), world time for 27 time zones, a 1-second stopwatch, daily alarm, power-saving mode, and Super Illuminator LED lighting.
Casio lists the MTGB2000YBD2 as being made in Japan, with water resistance rated at 200 meters. Its layered composite band uses a one-touch three-fold clasp and should be good for wrists between 150-205 mm.
At $1,200, this definitely isn't one of those impulse purchases, but for serious G-Shock fans looking for a watch that nails both aesthetics and engineering, the MTGB2000YBD2 offers a solid mix of both.
