The GMW-BZ5000BD-1, the first known model in Casio’s new GMW-BZ5000D series, has now surfaced on overseas watch retailer websites. While Casio Japan hasn’t officially confirmed a release date, the product’s appearance on international listings is a strong indicator that a launch could be approaching soon.
In case you've been out of the loop, the GMW-BZ5000BD-1 is a full metal G-Shock that has a neat bold black-and-gold exterior. Its design takes inspiration from the popular GMW-B5000D line but there's a whole new layer of visual elements, namely its darker finish and gold accents. The case appears to feature a black IP coating as well.
Earlier this month, Japanese coverage highlighted that the GMW-BZ5000BD-1 might come with a similar feature set to the existing GMW-B5000D model, possibly with incremental internal upgrades. The external appearance, however, is a noticeable departure from previous full metal square models, since this one is going for a more aggressive and luxurious look.
While the exact specifications have not been published by Casio, it is expected that the watch will include standard high-end G-Shock features such as Bluetooth connectivity, Tough Solar charging, and Multi-Band 6 radio time-sync support.
This black-and-gold variant may be the first of several models in the GMW-BZ5000D series, starting off what could be a more premium subline within the full metal G-Shock lineup. As of now, the watch is still unlisted on Casio Japan’s own retail platform, but its presence on international storefronts adds even more weight to the likelihood of an official announcement in the coming weeks.
