Lenovo ThinkBook 16p G3: Real successor of the ThinkBook 16p G2 with 165 Hz screen & USB4

We recently reported about the new Lenovo ThinkBook 16p NX, a new 16 inch ThinkBook from Lenovo. Compared to the 2021 Lenovo ThinkBook 16p G2, the ThinkBook 16p NX makes some compromises to the specifications. It also is only for the US market, so it is not really the true successor of the ThinkBook 16p G2.

That job falls to the newly released Lenovo ThinkBook 16p G3, which is the true successor to the ThinkBook 16p G2 - and not just by name.

The ThinkBook 16p G3 is built directly on the design platform of its predecessor, which means the majority of specifications stays the same. Different from the ThinkBook 16p NX, the ThinkBook 16p G3 will also still offer the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 instead of the weaker RTX 3050 Ti.

Part of the platform upgrade to AMD Ryzen 6000H is the change to LPDDR5 memory, which means that memory is soldered now. At least 32 GB is still offered, different from the ThinkBook 16p NX. With the new CPU platform comes along another feature: USB4.

There are no changes to the screen resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 (2.5K/WQXGA). But unlike the predecessor, the ThinkBook 16p G3 has a second screen option: A second 2.5K panel that offers a higher brightness of 500 cd/m² and a refresh rate of 165 Hz. With this screen, the ThinkBook 16p G3 should be a much more interesting option for gamers than the ThinkBook 16p G2.

Lenovo has not announced any date for the availability of the Lenovo ThinkBook 16p G3, but considering retail models are already in the PSREF database, it will probably not take very long.
