Huawei to cut price on the MateBook 13 down to $800 amidst trade war woes
There was supposed to be a big announcement for the MateBook laptop series this week. Of course, the ongoing trade war between the East and West has all but stalled Huawei's trajectory and roadmap. Even the 2019 MateBook X Pro refresh and MateBook 14 unveiled earlier this year have yet to appear on store shelves in North America. In an attempt to alleviate the damage, Huawei will be running another round of price cuts for its existing MateBook models for a limited time.
Between June 23 to 30 and July 1 to 6, the MateBook 13 and 2018 MateBook X Pro will each receive $200 discounts if purchased from Amazon or Newegg. The MateBook 13 and MateBook X Pro are currently retailing for $1000 and $1300, respectively, and so we can expect them to be down to $800 and $$1100 when the price cuts are in effect.
The MateBook X Pro series has always been Huawei's top-of-the-line offering in comparison to the mid-range MateBook 13 or entry-level MateBook D. It's actually quite good in relation to the competition and one of the only laptops with both a 3:2 display and a dedicated GeForce MX150 GPU that graphic designers can appreciate.
We can only assume that Huawei and Microsoft will continue to support their existing MateBook SKUs with driver and software updates in spite of these turbulent times for the Chinese OEM.
