Gigabyte Aero 15

Gigabyte Aero 15 is a high-end notebook with a stylish design after the successful Aero 14. It is a multimedia notebook with gaming capabilities or a gaming laptop with all-around nature. The Aero 15 is attractive thanks to its slim design and long battery runtimes. With a height of only 19 mm (~0.75 in), the 15-inch model appears very slim and can be comfortably transported. The low weight also contributes to the latter: 2.1 kg (~4.6 lb) does not really indicate that a 45-watt CPU and a gaming GPU are inside. The almost frameless display which is only about 5 mm/0.2 in along the top, left, and right edges is another advantage. However, the slim display bezels mean the webcam is placed below the display, which gives it an awkward angle for video chatting. The chassis, which is primarily made of aluminium, is meticulously built and can hardly be twisted even when strong pressure is applied. There are three colour variants of the Aero 15 or more precisely its lid. Apart from classic black, Gigabyte also offers a subtle green and a medium-bold orange. The 15-inch model uses a Core i7-7700HQ and a GeForce GTX 1060. Currently, these components are very popular in laptops from similar price range which offers a good compromise between price and performance. The Kaby Lake processor and the Pascal graphics card are accompanied by 16GB of DDR4 RAM and an M.2-SSD with 256 to 512 GB, which uses either SATA III or PCIe technology.
The display is a matte 15.6-inch IPS panel with 1920x1080 pixels. The display hinge which extends over almost the entire width and allows a view of the fan grilles does not show flows. Although the device can be easily opened with one hand, the lid does not wobble too much when the device sits on a vibrating surface. The Aero 15 keyboard is decent. Its travel distance is good for a gaming laptop, with a nice clicky response to the rubber dome keycaps. The amount of force required to activate each key makes it a great option for both typing and gaming. Gigabyte includes full RGB backlighting in the Aero 15 with the ability to individually customise the colour of every key. A user can achieve awesome effects through the Gigabyte Fusion utility. The powerful battery is one of the biggest unique features of the Aero 15: 94 Wh is very big and can be found in only a few performance notebooks. Other highlights include the very slim display frame, which competes with the Infinite Edge design of the Dell XPS 15, and the Thunderbolt 3 port.

It is small and slim enough for her to take to work and travel with while it has enough stuff under the hood to allow her to game. She also digs the look of it. With powerful internals and a gorgeous exterior the Gigabyte Aero 15W V8 won't look out of place in the work place or a LAN party. While we lament the lack of an HDD we recognise it would have added weight to a slim machine. The heat we feel through the keyboard becomes uncomfortable and that also loses this notebook some points. The display is the real star here and it alone earns the 15W V8 a recommendation from us.

Gigabyte has done some work optimising the battery life, allowing it to get over 7 hours of movie playback when in Performance mode. And while the unit is on the heavy side at a little over 2kg, for something with this much power and battery life, it’s actually exceptionally lightweight. The updated model does sacrifice the 3,000/1,500MB/S NVMe SSD from last year’s model for a slower 500MB/s SATA SSD, but this is the device’s only real step backwards — and it’s a largely inconsequential one.

The Gigabyte Aero 15-X9 is a powerful but slim gaming laptop. Gigabyte has managed to outshine its competitors by collaborating with Intel - the world renowned tech giant. This time round, the AERO uses a combination of high-performance parts by Intel, called the All Intel Inside technology. The Gigabyte Aero 15-X9 uses a whole block of aluminum to produce a refined laptop lid which is striking to the eye, solid to the touch and ultra-durable for daily use. The chassis is further made from compressed aluminum construction to create a strong yet light body. All this measures and weighs in at just 1.8 cm / 2.0 kg. Non-stop creativity is achieved through the use of a smooth and powerful processor. The AERO is now upgraded with a brand new, class leading, 6 core high-performance Intel Core i9-8950HK CPU. Users can express their creativity in the smoothest way possible. Gigabyte has chosen to equip the AERO with high-grade, high-performance Samsung DDR4 memory that decreases battery consumption, provides high speed transfer and overall memory quality. As for storage, the Intel 760p SSD is what takes transfer speed to the next level, with up to 3,200 MB/s read speed that lets users work without any long waiting times. Furthermore, the AERO is designed to take two of these speedy SSDs to increase the total storage space to meet users' needs. That's not Gigabyte's fault, though. It took the components it had and made a well-designed, fast and lightweight laptop that can grind through the most challenging games and content-creation chores. The company made it even better with tweaks to the touchpad and elsewhere, and the only shortcoming in this particular model (or any 4K laptop) is the battery life. It's also costly, but again, the price should hold up to rivals. Overall, the Aero 15 Y9 is an easy laptop to recommend.

There are plenty of other content creation laptops out there that run the same 9th-Gen Intel Core processors or Nvidia RTX graphics. There aren’t that many out there with OLED screens. If having that OLED screen actually matters to you, you’ll probably want to put some serious consideration into whether it’s worth paying the premium. What you’re getting here is good but, at the same time, most of the differences and evolution that the Aero 15 OLED offers are only skin deep.

Gigabyte has once again exceeded the expectations of many through the introduction of another high-performance laptop model bearing the name of Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED XA. The Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED XA is an Intel 9th generation laptop model, which is by happenstance the world’s only All Intel Inside model. Needless to say, further inspection is to be made in order to find out what does the novelty of being the world’s only All Intel Inside laptop model bring to the round table. First and foremost, it is important to point out that the vision in the creation of the Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED XA is based on the very foundation of combining both power and lightness into a single model. In order to achieve the status for being a portable powerhouse in the industry and climb the ladders to the top spot, the Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED XA taps into the limitless potential of the 9th generation Intel Core i9-9980HK processor. The 9th generation Intel Core i9-9980HK is an octa-core processor with Hyper-Threading technology and a clock rate between 2.3 GHz and 4.8 GHz. The introduction of the new Thermal Velocity Boost technology enables the Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED XA to reach unprecedented performance upon demand. It is almost ascertained and guaranteed that users will never experience evident sluggishness or lethargy during the operation of the Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED XA. Combining Intel’s 11th Gen processors and NVIDIA’s 2nd Gen RTX GPUs is an absolute delight for power hungry enthusiasts and avid content creators. Not only does it supply more than ample throughput but it paves the way for new technology possibilities. As can be expected, the hardware configuration for AERO 15 OLED YD delivers solid all-round performance. AERO 15 has no reservations about offering reliable 3D performance in the latest triple-a gaming titles nor does it shy away from contributing to improve content creation workflows. Though, we would have liked to see 1080p as the native resolution – 4K stretches things too far (even for the mighty RTX 3080) when gamers want to max out on the detail preset. The display on our AERO 15 OLED YD is fantastic and must be seen to really appreciate its true glory. The Samsung AMOLED display provides excellent brightness, higher contrast ratio and supports a higher colour gamut. If screen quality is a top priority then this laptop is an obvious choice.

Gigabyte: Gigabyte Technology is a Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer founded in 1986, best known for its motherboards and graphics cards. Gigabyte offers a wide range of products including motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, monitors, systems and components. Gigabyte's laptops offer gaming and creative features on the go. Gigabyte monitors offer 4K Pro Gaming.

With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile: The mobile GTX 1060 is based on the GP106 chip and offer 1280 shaders. Compared to the identically named desktop version it features a slightly lower clock rate. Games in Full HD and maximum details should run fluently on the card.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q: Efficient high end graphics card for thin and light laptops based on the same GP104 chip as the normal GTX 1070 for laptops but at slower clock speeds. Offers a approx. 15% lower performance but much lower power consumption.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q: High-End laptop graphics card based on the TU106 chip with 2,304 shaders and 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM. Offers reduced clock speeds to achieve a much lower power consumption.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q: High-End laptop graphics card based on the TU104 chip with 2,944 shaders and 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM. Runs at reduced clock speeds compared to a laptop RTX 2080 to achieve a much lower power consumption.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Mobile: Mid range dedicated graphics card for laptops based on the desktop GTX 1660 Ti and therefore the Turing architecture without raytracing and Tensor cores. The performance of the Max-P variant should be similar to an older GTX 1070.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile: Mid range to high end laptop graphics card based on the Turing architecture with raytracing features and 1,920 shaders. Compared to the similar named desktop card it offers reduced clock rates.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q: High-End laptop graphics card based on the TU104 chip with 2,560 shaders. Runs at reduced clock speeds compared to a laptop RTX 2070 Super to achieve a much lower power consumption. The TGP is specified at 80 Watts and therefore significantly lower than the RTX 2070 Super Mobile (115 Watt).

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU: High-End laptop graphics card based on the Ampere GA106 chip with 3072 cores. Available in different versions with a TDP from 60 to 115 Watt.

These graphics cards are able to play the latest and most demanding games in high resolutions and full detail settings with enabled Anti-Aliasing.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU: High-End laptop graphics card based on the Ampere GA104 chip. Available in different versions with a TDP from 80 to 125 Watt.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU: High-End laptop graphics card based on the Ampere GA104 chip. At the time of the launch in early 2021, the 3080 is the fastest laptop graphics card on the market.

i7-9750H: A high-performance hexa-core processor of the Coffee Lake product family designed for the larger laptops. Integrates six processor cores clocked at 2.6 - 4.5 GHz (4 GHz with 6 cores) that support HyperThreading. Manufactured in an improved 14nm process (14nm++).

Intel Comet Lake:

i7-10750H: A high-performance hexa-core processor designed for use in thicker laptops with room for better thermals. The Comet Lake-H processor is manufactured on the third-gen 14 nm Intel process and features a 24 EU UHD Graphics 630 iGPU clocked at 350 MHz to 1,150 MHz. The CPU cores run at 2.6 GHz (base clock speed) Boosting up to 5.0 GHz and the likely all-core Boost frequency is 4.3 GHz. Hyper-Threading is enabled, allowing two threads to run simultaneously on each core.

i7-10875H: On Coffee Lake architecture based processor for big and heavy laptops. Integrates eight processor cores clocked at 2.3 - 5,1 GHz (all 8 cores up to 4.3 GHz) that support HyperThreading. Manufactured in an improved 14nm process (14nm++).

i7-10870H: A higher-end, octa-core processor of the Comet Lake product family. This i7 is designed for use in larger, beefier laptops; its Hyper-Threading-enabled CPU cores run at 2.2 GHz (base clock speed) to 5 GHz (max. Boost frequency when under single-thread load). The all-core Boost clock speed is 4.2 GHz. Core i7-10870H is manufactured on Intel's third-gen 14 nm process and features the 24 EU UHD Graphics 630 iGPU.

i9-10980HK: On Comet Lake architecture based processor for big and heavy laptops. Integrates eight processor cores clocked at 3.1 - 5 GHz that support HyperThreading. Manufactured in an improved 14nm process (14nm++). At the time of announcement, the i9-10980HK is the fastest Comet Lake-H CPU and fastest laptop CPU on the market. Thanks to the free multiplicator, the CPU can also be easily overclocked (but may not have much headroom).

Intel Tiger Lake:

i7-11800H: Tiger Lake (H45 series) based high end octa-core SoC for gaming laptops and workstations. The eight CPU cores run at 2.3 GHz to 4.6 GHz. The integrated UHD Graphics GPU offers 32 EUs at up to 1.45 GHz. The chip is manufactured on the second-gen 10 nm Intel SuperFin process.
