Fresh rumour about Xiaomi's MIUI 13 eligibility criteria emerges
Xiaomi may be pushing ahead with its MIUI 12.5 rollout, but Digital Chat Station has hinted at the company's plans for MIUI 13. Earlier this year, there were rumours that MIUI 13 would arrive as early as June 25, but Xiaomi subsequently rubbished this. Digital Chat Station has not provided details about a release date for Xiaomi's next OS, but they have teased what devices will be eligible for it.
According to the popular leak, Xiaomi will release MIUI 13 to basically every device that it has released in the last two years. Currently, Xiaomi bases MIUI 12.5 on Android 9, 10 and 11, so it should follow that it bases MIUI 13 on Android 10, 11 and 12. Hence, you should expect your handset to receive MIUI 13 if Xiaomi started selling it at any point from 2019 onwards. This means that older flagships like the Mi 8 would miss out on MIUI 13, even though it is receiving MIUI 12.5.
Nonetheless, Xiaomi continues to offer better software coverage than its Android contemporaries and with many more devices to cover. The company is fairly fast at upgrading devices to its new OSes too, even if it does so rather sporadically. Unfortunately, details on MIUI 13 remain largely unknown, bar a supposedly leaked UI element. You can read about that here.
