Some gamers criticized Death Stranding for tiresome exploration and slow pacing. Still, committed players became obsessed with unraveling its many mysteries. Now, the loyal following of Hideo Kojima's game has new challenges to look forward to. At a SXSW 2025 panel, a trailer announced the Death Stranding 2 release date as June 26.
Gamers can pre-order Death Stranding 2: On the Beach starting on March 17. The rumored collector's edition, with physical bonuses like a Magellan Man statue, is also an option. Ordering this version will unlock 48 hours of early access before the official Death Stranding 2 release date. PS5 gamers can also select the standard edition with a physical disc or digital download. Finally, a digital deluxe edition offers a generous collection of unique in-game items.
Even purchasing the Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Standard Edition will award players with skeletons, a machine gun, patches, and more. Unfortunately, pricing is unknown, but the title appears to be a PS5 exclusive. Gamers hoping for Death Stranding 2 to reach the Xbox, PC, or other platforms may be in for a wait.
At SXSW, Kojima was joined by Norman Reedus and Troy Baker, who will reprise their roles from the first game. The broadcast also unveiled a new Death Stranding 2: On the Beach trailer, which is unsurprisingly heavy on cinematics. However, Norman Reedus' character, Sam Porter Bridges, is seen hauling cargo through various desolate landscapes. Viewers also witness a variety of vehicles roaming the environments and a heavy dose of combat.
One of the more shocking moments from the trailer came toward the end of the production. From Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear series, a character resembling Solid Snake makes an appearance. While details about a potential cross-over are vague, it raises the anticipation for Death Stranding 2 to a new level.
