Hideo Kojima has already written the concept for Death Stranding 3 but will continue to focus on OD, Physint

Even though Death Stranding 2 has only recently been released (June 2025) on the Sony PlayStation 5, Hideo Kojima has revealed that he has already laid out and penned down the conceptual blueprint for Death Stranding 3. Despite this contribution, he has also clearly stated that he won’t be directing the third installment, at least “not at the moment”.

Hideo Kojima made this revelation during a commentary section of the World Strand Tour, a global promotional circuit for Death Stranding 2. During his stop in Saudi Arabia, Kojima engaged with fans when an interviewer asked the crowd about their interest in Death Stranding 3.

To the surprise of many, Kojima made the revelation, which was interpreted via a translator, “I am not planning to do Death Stranding 3 at the moment, because the ending of Death Stranding 2 was my finale of 1 and 2. But I already wrote the concept of Death Stranding 3. So I have the data.” Kojima further added, “I hope that someone will create it for me.”

Death Stranding 2 was released in June 2025 on the PlayStation 5 and has been regarded as one of the best video games of 2025. The game continues the story of Sam Porter Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, which throws players into a fractured world plagued with supernatural threats.

Kojima might hand the reins of Death Stranding 3 over to someone else as he shifts his focus to his horror game, OD, being developed in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios. The game was announced in December 2023 with a short teaser at The Game Awards 2023 in December. The game is currently in development and is expected to be released sometime in 2026 or 2027, with no official release date set in stone.

Alongside, Kojima is juggling another title for PlayStation, known as Physint, which is set to be an action-espionage game, and a spiritual send-off to his gaming career and projects, notably the Metal Gear Solid franchise.

Kojima conceived the idea for Physint in 2020 after being struck with a serious illness. Currently, the game is in a conceptual stage, and Kojima is working on Physint “all by himself.” The game is expected to release on the PlayStation 6 towars the end of the decade.
