The Apple HomePod and the HomePod mini have received a new software update, version 17.5. Apple’s change log for the latest software states that there have been performance upgrades and the device’s stability has been improved. However, the company has not provided further details as to what changes have been made.
Some HomePod users who have tested their devices since the update report that performance is about the same, with no new significant issues. However, previous problems with Siri and device connections do not appear to have been resolved. It has also been suggested that bass levels have increased for second-generation HomePods, that the Sound Check feature has been fixed and that Siri is now more responsive. The release has been pushed to eligible devices automatically; if you have automatic updates disabled, you can trigger the update via the Home app. Many users noted this was a fast and smooth update, which was not the case for other recent releases.
The update follows version 17.4, launched in March, which allowed Siri to learn your favourite media service. This meant that users no longer needed to include the name of the preferred app in a voice command to start playing music. It is unclear when the next software version will arrive for Apple HomePod and HomePod mini devices.
