Unhappy buyers took aim at Target for late deliveries following the Switch 2 launch. Several weeks later, the U.S. retailer is sending apologies in the form of a $50 Nintendo eShop gift card. The marketplace offers new and upcoming Switch 2 games, as well as various digital content.

The weeks leading up to the Switch 2 release date were an anxious time for Nintendo fans. Buyers who secured a pre-order still had concerns about cancellations. While Target fulfilled many online orders, gamers complained about late shipments. Many customers didn't receive their Switch 2 until well into the following week. To compensate these customers, the store is emailing codes to redeem a $50 Nintendo eShop gift card.

So far, reports on social media suggest buyers with deliveries on or after June 7th are receiving the Nintendo eShop gift card offer. Even so, that doesn't apply to all gamers, and it's unclear what criteria Target is using.

Target didn't necessarily promise release date delivery of the handheld on June 5th. Gamers reported estimated shipping times from June 6th to June 11th. As it turned out, some of the consoles didn't arrive until the 11th or later. Meanwhile, competitors like Best Buy, GameStop, and Walmart delivered the systems on June 5th or the next day.

Buyers taking advantage of the offer should add the $50 eShop gift card to their cart on the Target website. Then, customers are instructed to use the promo code from the email during checkout. With an order total of $0, buyers should see a digital code for the Nintendo store in their email inboxes. Some gamers plan to use part of the funds to reserve Switch 2 games like Donkey Kong Bananza.

Although early delivery wasn't guaranteed, Target may be trying to win back the trust of gamers ahead of future launches. Especially for buyers with a Switch 2 pre-order, it was disappointing to see fellow fans unbox the console days before them.
