We've covered docking solutions for the Mac Mini before, such as those from Ugreen, which are available via Amazon. A new model, the Acasis, is now available on Kickstarter. The Mac Mini is simply inserted into and mounted inside the 136 x 170 x 87 millimeter system. The system is made of aluminum and thus visually matches the Mac Mini. A fan is also installed for waste heat dissipation. The Mac Mini's ports can still be used as there are corresponding cut-outs.
The Acasis workstation dock significantly expands the variety of connections. Two USB-A ports with a maximum data transfer rate of 10 GBit/s are available, and image output is possible via two DisplayPort ports. If users limit themselves to a single display, 4K image material can be transmitted at 144 Hz. This becomes 60 Hz when using two 4K displays simultaneously. A memory card reader is on board for SD and microSD cards. Two options are available for mounting M.2 SSDs, i.e., up to two 8-terabyte SSDs can be installed, and a maximum data transfer rate of 2,800 MB/s is possible in RAID 0.
As part of the crowdfunding campaign, supporters are promised a model starting with a contribution of $149, with delivery scheduled for June. As always, the financial risks associated with crowdfunding campaigns apply.
