The gaming handheld market continues at a breakneck pace. For context, AYN Technologies is preparing to launch the Odin2 Portal later this week, ahead of which it has confirmed full device specs. Meanwhile, Anbernic will begin selling the RG CubeXX at a price point much closer to the likes of the existing RG35XX SP (curr. $89.99 on Amazon).
Now, AYANEO has joined the party by teasing what it describes as a new 'flagship handheld' and a 'new era of handheld devices'. So far, the company has revealed next to nothing about the device, apart from confirming that it will be called the AYANEO 3. Nonetheless, we can infer a few details based on AYANEO's past releases.
For instance, its 'Pocket' sub-brand has been reserved Android-based options until now. Moreover, it tends to equip its Windows-based alternatives with more powerful AMD and Intel processors than the MediaTek and Qualcomm equivalents found in the Pocket Air and Pocket EVO, among others.
Given that the company is already referring to the AYANEO 3 as a 'flagship', we imagine it will move on from the AMD Phoenix and Hawk Point APUs that it has been using across its high-end product stack in the last year or so. Thus, it would seem probable that AYANEO will base the AYANEO 3 on AMD Strix Point or Intel Lunar Lake chips, which have already proven to be efficient yet powerful options as the Ryzen AI 9 365 and Core Ultra 7 256V. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen when AYANEO will confirm more details about its next gaming handheld at this stage.
