Hardly any time has passed since 8BitDo updated the Ultimate 2C with new colour options. Shortly afterwards, the company introduced the Micro and Zero 2 as some of its smallest controllers released to date. Now, it has launched the Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller or Ultimate 2 for short.
As its name suggests, the Ultimate 2 replaces the original Ultimate. However, it also draws on the design of the Ultimate 2C with its four face buttons and tertiary shoulder buttons. The Ultimate 2 is more than a mere combination of prior designs, though.
According to 8BitDo, it has equipped the Ultimate 2 with TMR joysticks. Theoretically, these should consume less power than their Hall effect equivalents while delivering a higher polling rate too, which 8BitDo reports hits 1,000 Hz in 2.4 GHz and wired modes.
The Ultimate 2C also supports 8BitDo's '8Speed' low latency 2.4 GHz connection mode. Incidentally, the bundled 2.4 GHz receiver has a USB Type-C connection rather than the USB Type-A equivalent found on other 8BitDo controllers. Meanwhile, 6-axis motion control is onboard, as are Hall effect triggers. The latter can be switched to non-linear tactile triggers via a switch, too.
Currently, the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 can be ordered on Amazon for $59.99 in black, purple and white colour options with matching charging docks. Based on Amazon's listings, the black and white variants should start shipping later this week. Please see 8BitDo's website for details.
