Xiaomi has plenty of reason to celebrate today, as it has now sold more than 200 million Redmi Note devices worldwide. According to new data, Xiaomi is now the third-largest smartphone manufacturer globally, and the leading manufacturer in 10 markets.

It has only been a few months since Xiaomi announced that it had sold 140 million Redmi Note devices, but the company has already reached another milestone. According to new data supplied by Canalys, Redmi Note sales have now hit the 200 million, following the launches of new Redmi Note 9 devices. It took Xiaomi thirteen months to go from 100 million to 140 million units sold for context. Xiaomi is due to release the Redmi Note 10 series this month, which could further boost the Redmi Note brand's popularity.

Additionally, data provided by Canalys shows that Xiaomi is the third-largest smartphone manufacturer globally. However, this is skewed by 10 markets where Xiaomi is ranked first, as it is only within the top 5 in 54 others. We should also stress that while Xiaomi's sales have increased rapidly in the last year, this has coincided with Huawei's market share plummeting.

Nonetheless, the same data reports that Xiaomi is the fastest-growing manufacturer in the high-end smartphone segment, which Canalys defines as being US$500 or more. Xiaomi's market share has increased by 3,639% in this segment, in percentage terms. The successes of the POCO F2 Pro and the Mi 10 series are probably at play here, with Xiaomi pricing the Redmi Note series at below that US$500 threshold. Xiaomi's aggressive pricing of the Mi 11 against the likes of the Galaxy S21 Ultra could push the company's growth within the high-end flagship even further, too.
