Tipster @ExecuFix revealed what appear to be details for the upcoming AMD Instinct MI250W GPU. The MCM-based card will reportedly feature 110 CUs running at 1.7 GHz, 128GB of HBM2 memory, and a 500W TDP.

Tipster @ExecuFix revealed what they claimed were specs for AMD's upcoming top-end MI250X HPC GPU. The card will reportedly use MCM (multi-chip module) technology to feature 110 compute units, running at 1.7 GHz, for up to 48 TFLOPs of raw compute. The card will be supported by 128GB of HBM2 memory. The large memory pool and GPU will need quite a bit of power, though. @ExecuFix indicates that the MI250X's TDP will be a whopping 500W. The  card will be built on the CDNA2 architecture, on the 7nm process.

While the MI250X isn't a gaming graphics card by any stretch - the AMD Instinct line is meant for HPC server workloads - the MCM-based architecture gives us a hint of what could lie in the future for gaming-oriented Radeon cards. 

With die-shrinks fewer and further in between, MCM provides graphics card manufacturers with a way to deliver larger boosts to graphics performance by sticking together multiple GPU chiplets on a single module. Both AMD and NVIDIA (with their Hopper project) are reportedly working on MCM-based cards for the gaming market. It remains to be seen as to how much of an impact these will have, especially with the gradual move from 4K to 8K gaming at the ultra-high end.
