There have been countless leaks and rumors about Apple’s iPhone 18 series, even though it’s been only two months since the iPhone 17 series launched. These early rumors hint at the design changes that could come with the iPhone 18 series, as well as some camera upgrades. The latest is more of a form factor leak as the iPhone 18 Pro Max is said to be heavier and thicker than previous iPhone models.
The information comes courtesy of Instant Digital over on Weibo. The leaker claims that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be around 10 grams heavier than its predecessor. This means the phone will weigh around 243 grams, making it the heaviest iPhone ever. The record, for now, is held by the iPhone 14 Pro Max which weighs 240 grams. With the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 series, the use of titanium allowed for some weight reduction. The iPhone 17 Pro Max went back to an aluminum body which brought it up to 233 grams.
Furthermore, the leaker also mentions that it will be slightly thicker than its predecessor. The iPhone 17 Pro Max measures 8.75 mm and with the iPhone 18 Pro Max tipped to be even thicker, Apple could be installing a larger battery or just need more room to keep the 2 nm based A20 SoC cool.
It should be noted that these are just rumors at this point and Apple has not shared any information about the next generation iPhone models. It is believed that the iPhone 18 series will have a staggered launch with the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max releasing in the second half of next year but the base iPhone 18 being pushed to first half of 2027. The company is also expected to launch its first foldable next year, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models, which would arguably be a more exciting release. However, there are also reports stating that the foldable could be pushed to 2027.
