Apple will update the technology behind its dedicated Camera Control for iPhones - but not until 2026, according to a new leak. The 18 series' extra button might become more like the Android counterparts found on select smartphones, in a move that might improve its performance and possibly keep the next-gen iPhone's price-tag under control.

Apple has been rumored to discontinue the Camera Control introduced in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max following poor feedback for its latest type of smartphone button. That is not exactly the case, according to the typically knowledgeable leaker Setsuna Digital.

The Cupertino giant might yet persist with the Control for a few generations - albeit with a few changes. The version developed for the 18 series is said to drop the button's current capacitive element and become completely pressure-sensitive instead.

Apple might be following Vivo and Oppo with the ancillary buttons found on smartphones such as the X200 Ultra and Find X8 Ultra - however, it might also be that the existing hybrid solution of the 16 series is simply too expensive in addition to gaining a reputation for being less than precise and intuitive to use.

The new pressure-sensitive Camera Control might debut in the iPhone 18 Pro series (and possibly Air), with no word on any similar change heading for the more imminent 17, 17 Air or 17 Pro series to date.
