Google Camera app reveals camera details about Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel tablet

The Pixel 7 series is a way off from reaching consumers yet, as is the Pixel tablet. However, 9to5Google has discovered camera references for both models in the latest Google Camera app update. Now on version 8.5, the app update mainly contains bug fixes. It remains to be seen why Google would add references to unreleased devices at this stage though, especially for the Pixel tablet.

Regardless, 9to5Google claims that Google Camera v8.5 points towards the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro being capable of recording 4K videos with their front-facing cameras. While this is already possible with the Pixel 6 Pro and its 11.1 MP front-facing camera, Google prevented the 8 MP equivalent in the Pixel 6 from doing the same. Hence, it seems that Google has upgraded the front-facing for the cheaper of this year's flagship Pixel smartphones. Potentially, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro could rely on the same camera sensor, which has often been the case on previous Pixel smartphones.

Separately, the website adds that code snippets suggest that the Pixel tablet will be incapable of recording 4K videos at all. Based on the teaser images that Google has released to date, the Pixel tablet will have single front-facing and rear-facing cameras, much like cheap Android tablets or iPads. Also, the Pixel tablet will not support audio zoom, action pan photos or slow-motion videos, despite being expected to rely on Google Tensor hardware. At this stage, Google has only loosely committed itself to releasing the Pixel tablet at some point in 2023 and is yet to provide any concrete hardware details.
