MagyarDJI Avata: Release date, prices, accessories and in-hand photos emerge for upcoming FPV drone
It seems that DJI is close to releasing the Avata, its next-generation first-person view (FPV) drone. Originally rumoured for a July release, the DJI Avata will replace the DJI FPV, the latter of which DJI introduced in March 2021. Incidentally, the launch of the DJI Avata will coincide with the arrival of the DJI Goggles 2 and the DJI FPV Goggles V2. For reference, close-ups of the DJI FPV Goggles V2 leaked earlier this month.
Subsequently, numerous in-hand photos of the DJI Avata and its accompanying head unit have surfaced online. Embedded below, the photos provide a detailed look at the DJI Avata, which has four propellers arranged in a 2+2 configuration with propeller guards. Meanwhile, DJI has dedicated the middle of the Avata to its battery and camera housing. Like the Mini 3 Pro, the DJI Avata has one camera lens.
According to DroneXL, the camera has a one-axis gimbal and electronic stabilisation, marketed by DJI as RockSteady stabilisation. Additionally, the website claims that the camera offers a 155-degree field of view (FoV); reportedly, the camera itself is the same 48 MP sensor as the one that DJI includes in the Mini 3 Pro. Accordingly, the DJI Avata will be capable of capturing 4K video. Purportedly, the drone will provide HD low-latency video transmission to the DJI Goggles 2 too.
Separately, DJI will offer the Avata in two combo packs, starting with the Fly Smart Combo at US$1,168 with the FPV Goggles V2 and DJI V1 Motion Controller. Also, the Avata will be available in a Pro-View Combo for US$1,388, which swaps the FPV Goggles V2 for the DJI Goggles 2. Alternatively, the drone will cost US$629, with the DJI Goggles 2 retailing for US$649.
DroneXL adds that there will be the DJI Goggles 2 Motion Combo, priced at US$759 with the DJI Goggles 2 and V1 Motion Controller. Reputedly, DJI will unveil the Avata and its accessories on August 23. Presumably, the drone will be available to pre-order from that date as well. Pricing has not leaked for other regions yet, although we imagine that DJI will launch the Avata and its accessories globally on August 23, not just in the US.
