Nvidia may be directly helping out AIB partners to move excess Ampere stock if the newest report from Moore’s Law is Dead is accurate. GPU prices have been going down since the start of the crypto mining crash. Due to falling prices and ample availability, AIBs have been left with a lot of boards to sell.

We reported last week that, according to Tom of Moore’s Law is Dead YouTube channel, Nvidia did some “BIG things” to resolve the RTX 30 oversupply issues. The leaker now sheds some more light on the steps Nvidia is taking to help its AIB partners out.

Per one of Tom’s sources, “Nvidia has directly stepped in to help AIBs clear their reserve stockpiles of GA 102 in exchange for big pre-purchases of Enthusiast Lovelace”. But the source believes that, even with Nvidia’s help, it will be months before AIBs can clear their high-end GA102 (RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 SKUs) inventory. Furthermore, AIBs are reportedly “on their own” in the case of mid-range and low-end GA104, for instance, the RTX 3070 and the RTX 3060 Ti.

Nvidia’s strategy of helping out AIBs seems to be working as one of Tom’s AIB sources mentions, “The channel is already starting to run dry of RTX 3090s, and the RTX 3090 Ti is starting to show signs of depleting stock as well.”

Tom suggests that GPU prices will continue to get lower till the end of this month and may increase again in September. Allegedly, both Team Green and Team Red will take “aggressive actions” in late August if there is still a significant stockpile of cards. Nvidia can reportedly decrease the price further, but AMD will leave prices to the market.

Nvidia and AMD are expected to release their next-gen GPUs later this year. While we don’t know for sure what effect the release of the new boards will have on the market, we do know that they will sell out pretty quickly. So if you really need a new board, now may be the best time to get a low/mid-range card.
