ZTE Axon 9 Pro Review: Hands-On
Source: Ubergizmo English English
The ZTE Axon 9 Pro was one of the most exciting handsets launched at IFA, it is designed to compete at the highest level, and as such, it finds itself in a ferociously competitive market. The clean design and the 60FPS video upscaling feature might appeal to a crowd that is big on watching action-video content.

ZTE Axon 9 Pro hands-on review

In any case, the Axon 9 Pro is a true 2018 flagship, by every standard. Fully decked-out and complete with at least a couple of interesting features and extras. We doubt that it will dramatically shift ZTE's current market standing in any way. But, for a small group of just the right kind of Android power users, it really does seem like the phone to beat.

ZTE Axon 9 Pro hands-on
Source: Android Authority English
ZTE is having a hard year. Back in May, it was forced to “cease major operating activities” after the U.S. banned the company from buying U.S. goods (such as Qualcomm processors) due to the company violating sanctions against Iran. This ban was reversed after a month, under the condition that the company would have to pay a $1 billion fine to the U.S., with $400,000 extra left in escrow. This put a significant dent in the company’s operations, but ZTE is hoping for a comeback with a device it thinks will bring back the glory days.

Model:

The ZTE Axon 9 Pro is the Chinese company’s newest flagship phone. It comes with many premium features and great performance hardware. The phone features a familiar glass sandwich design with a metal frame, but it feels lightweight in hand. The finish is a 2.5D hardened glass on the front and 3D tempered glass on the back, which makes it quite vulnerable to drops. The display of the ZTE Axon 9 Pro is a 6.21-inch OLED display. It has a 2,248 x 1,080 resolution, which is plenty sharp, as well as an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. Users can experience crisp picture quality, brilliant colours and strong contrasts with the Axon 9 Pro. ZTE's new graphics technology, HDR10, and Axon Vision™ make playing games, watching movies and pictures ultimate fun. The graphics performance is rounded off by an RGB sensor. It dynamically captures the ambient light and adjusts the colour temperature of the FHD+ AMOLED display. Thus, a user will always benefit from the perfect colour scheme no matter when and where. The independent display processing chip with MEMC technology (motion estimation, motion compensation) provides a silky, yet ultra-sharp video experience that can handle up to 500 megapixels per second. The image refresh rate of 24 or 30 frames is increased to 60 frames per second to reduce blur and create a great viewing experience. And thanks to the dual camera with 12 MP and 20 MP incl. 130° wide-angle, the pictures get an impressive effect.

The Axon 9 Pro knows no limits in terms of power. The smartphone is equipped with a powerful Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 845 processor for fast response and a smooth and fluid gaming experience. The storage is not expandable, but there is 128 GB of internal storage, which will satisfy most users. In addition, AI features improve the hardware and battery performance based on user’s behaviour patterns. Even when travelling, the Axon 9 Pro will not let users down: Real-time translations are easy with Smart Voice, and IP68 protection protects the smartphone from rain and other environmental factors. Other premium features worth mentioning include USB Type-C, a rear fingerprint scanner, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, stereo speakers, surround sound recording, and an RGB sensor for automatically adjusting the screen’s temperature. As for software, the Axon 9 Pro runs on almost stock Android, but it is Android 8.1 Oreo, not Android 9.0 Pie. A stock Android 9 phone would have been a more attractive prospect, but the lack of bloatware is appreciated. As a conclusion, while the ZTE Axon 9 Pro features many premium features and is well-built, it does not have a low price and faces strong competition from OnePlus, Moto and Asus.

6.21":

Only a few smartphones have larger screens.
Large display-sizes allow higher resolutions. So, details like letters are bigger. On the other hand, the power consumption is lower with small screen diagonals and the devices are smaller, more lightweight and cheaper.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
0.179 kg:

Only few smartphones are more lightweight than this.
