AMD advertises its EPYC lineup of processors for server-grade applications. In general, these CPUs are power-hungry and demand a robust cooling setup. However, these challenges haven’t stopped one of the Chinese manufacturers from putting the CPUs into a laptop. The manufacturer in the spotlight is Xinjuneng, which has started crowdfunding for its Yunguai REV-9.
Given its dimensions, which are 420 x 325 x 46 mm, the system may not really fall under the laptop category. It may just be too heavy and large to sit on your lap. But you can safely call the Yunguai REV-9 a portable PC. Nonetheless, the good part is that Xinjuneng appears to have properly utilized the massive form factor.
Under the hood, the Yunguai REV-9 comes with either the AMD EPYC 7713 or EPYC 9554 CPU. Both are 64-core processors with 128 threads. As for the TDPs, they are rated at 225W and 360W, respectively.
Xinjuneng paired these beefy processors with NVIDIA RTX 4080. So, it goes without saying that the Yunguai REV-9 should be able to handle anything you throw at it. Of course, these powerful components demand a capable cooling system.
Well, the Yunguai REV-9 has a built-in split liquid cooling. It sports a high-power water pump and integrated liquid tank. There’s a large copper radiator too. All these should keep the CPU and GPU in the optimal temperature range.
Other highlights of the Yunguai REV-9 laptop include a 17.3-inch screen with 2.5K resolution, 240 Hz refresh rate, and 100% sRGB color gamut. There’s also an option for a 4K screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate. In addition, it has a rich set of ports. As for availability, the crowdfunding goal is CNY500000 ($70,616), and Xinjuneng plans to launch it on December 19 in China.
