Rumor | Xiaomi weighs up answering the iPhone SE 2 with a Mi 6 refresh
Apple will reportedly release an iPhone SE 2 (or possibly 9) this year. Its hypothetical unique selling point is that it will buck the huge-screen trend with a more manageable 8-sized display; furthermore, it may be much more cost-effective than flagships from this OEM have become.
Now, a new leak from the Chinese social media site Weibo point to a project at Xiaomi to offer a similar product. A user described as an executive at this company has reportedly posted asking for feedback on aon an idea to re-make the Mi 6 - albeit one with an edge-to-edge screen.
The original 2017 flagship had a large chin and forehead flanking a 5.15-inch display. Apply updated screen technology, though, and this dimension could increase to as much as ~5.7 inches.
This, apparently, is part of the plan at Xiaomi (the "Mi 6 2020" could have a single or dual punch-hole camera), which may now want to know how much Chinese consumers would pay for such a phone.
According to the Weibo message, this phone could also have a Snapdragon 7- or 8-series SoC, depending on which would be easiest on the size and weight of the device, an improved battery in terms of capacity and NFC. To date, there are no further indications on this "Mi 6 refresh", or when it might be available.
