Xiaomi has announced that it will launch the Redmi K40 series next week, following much anticipation about its upcoming flagship Redmi smartphones. Launch details remain unclear for the time being, but Xiaomi has confirmed that the event will commence at 12:30 CST (UTC+08:00) on February 25. The Redmi K40 series should compete with Xiaomi's own Mi 11, which the company recently announced globally.
It remains to be seen under what names Xiaomi will sell the Redmi K40 series globally, though. Last year, for example, Xiaomi sold the Redmi K30 Pro globally as the POCO F2 Pro. By contrast, the company marketed the Redmi K20 series as the Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro the year before.
Nonetheless, Xiaomi has confirmed yet more specifications about the Redmi K40 series ahead of its launch next Thursday. For one, Xiaomi has detailed that its next Redmi flagships will have three rear-facing cameras, as pictured below. Additionally, the company will equip at least one Redmi K40 series device with a Snapdragon 888 SoC, Qualcomm's latest flagship chipset. The Snapdragon 888 will work in tandem with Wi-Fi 6 Enhanced Edition connectivity, which will deliver up to 3.5 Gbps transfer speeds.
A video showcasing these transfer speeds may have provided a look at the front of the Redmi K40 series too, or at least one of them. You can watch the video here, for reference. Based on current teasers, it seems that Xiaomi will unveil two Redmi K40 series devices initially. The company refers to releasing 'double flagships', which suggests that both models will include high-end components. However, rumour has it that Xiaomi will only equip the Redmi K40 Pro with the Snapdragon 888, with the Redmi K40 making do with the Snapdragon 870 - an overclocked Snapdragon 865/Snapdragon 865 Plus.
