Xiaomi teases 'A New Lite is Coming' in anticipation of its next hardware event

Xiaomi has been teasing its September 15 hardware event for a while now, starting with the 11T series. Now, the company has begun dropping hints that 'Lite is Back', 'A New Lite is Coming' and 'A New Style is Coming'. The tweets also carry the hashtag #Xiaomi11LiteSeries, seemingly referring to the Xiaomi 11 Lite NE.

So far, leaks have pointed towards Xiaomi releasing the 11 Lite 5G NE globally and the 11 Lite NE in India. Presumably, the latter is a 4G version of the former, as the Mi 11 Lite 4G is to the Mi 11 Lite 5G. However, the hashtag implies that Xiaomi will release both models globally, or at least in multiple markets.

While Xiaomi is talking up the 11 Lite series, various leaks suggest that it will hardly differ from the Mi 11 Lite series. Reputedly, the 11 Lite 5G NE will launch with a Snapdragon 778G, an SoC that is marginally worse than the Snapdragon 780G in the Mi 11 Lite 5G.

There appears to be no difference between the 11 Lite and Mi 11 Lite series elsewhere, either. As far as we can tell, the former retains its predecessor's storage, RAM and cameras, along with its colour options. The 11 Lite 5G NE is expected to arrive for €40 less than the Mi 11 Lite 5G though, which may be something that Xiaomi pushes hard on Wednesday.
