Revised Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite to launch under a different name in India than in the rest of the world
Last week, @xiaomiui purported that Xiaomi planned to release two Mi 11 Lite models codenamed 'Mona' and 'Lisa'. The Twitter account asserted that both would feature 1080p displays and Snapdragon 778 SoCs, albeit with a 90 Hz refresh rate for 'Lisa'.
Now, @kacskrz has discovered that Xiaomi will release 'Lisa' under two different model names. Initially, Skrzypek stated India would receive the Xiaomi 11 Lite NE, which has been assigned the model number 2109119DI. For reference, the 'I' suffix denotes that Xiaomi will sell the device in India.
By contrast, Xiaomi will launch the same device as the 11 Lite 5G NE globally. Correspondingly, this device carries the model number 2109119DG, identical to the 2109119DI save for the global and Indian identifiers. Presumably, the global model will arrive in at least the EU, UK and the US.
It is unclear what 'NE' means in this context. For example, Huawei has launched New Edition smartphones before, but Skrzypek is not ruling out New Era or something similar. Likewise, we do not know why Xiaomi has registered the same device under two names. Potentially, the Xiaomi 11 Lite NE and Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE utilise different chipsets, although all recent Snapdragon 7xx SoCs feature 5G modems. Xiaomi could announce at least the 11 Lite 5G NE on September 15 alongside the Pad 5 and 11T series.
