Xiaomi's new iPad mini rival with 165Hz display confirmed for imminent launch

Xiaomi is gearing up to launch a couple of new devices in China, and the Redmi K Pad 2 is one of them. It will stand as a successor to the last-gen compact tablet, coming with flagship specs but in a small form factor. The company recently showcased the design, and now, it has an official launch date.
With a new announcement, Xiaomi has confirmed that its new iPad mini competitor is launching in China on April 21, 2026. The unveiling will be at the same launch event as the K90 Max and the Intel Panther Lake-powered Redmi Book Pro 2026 lineup.
Nothing new has been shared by the company other than the launch date. For those who missed it, Xiaomi previously confirmed that the tablet will feature the Dimensity 9500, the current-gen flagship SoC from MediaTek. It will be paired with a rather large battery for the tablet's size.
Specifically, the Redmi K Pad 2 will feature a 9,100mAh battery, and as for the screen, Xiaomi confirmed that it will be an 8.8-inch panel but didn't specify the screen type. Digital Chat Station reports that it's an LCD display, which means the screen won't see a major upgrade.
The company has also confirmed that the display will sport a 165Hz refresh rate, which is another thing that's not changing from the last-gen tablet. Of course, the design did see a welcoming change, with the back of the Redmi K Pad 2 coming with a minimalistic design, similar to the iPad mini (2024 128GB WiFi model curr. $474 on Amazon).
Upcoming teasers from Xiaomi will confirm more specs of this compact flagship tablet, and they should arrive well ahead of the April 21 launch event.
