After days of teasers, Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Redmi Turbo 5 Max in China. It's the first phone that's powered by the Dimensity 9500s, a new sub-flagship SoC that promises to offer flagship-grade performance.
While the phone is already available to purchase in China, Xiaomi has yet to share the global plans for this Dimensity 9500s phone. However, interested international buyers can already import the Redmi Turbo 5 Max through platforms like Giztop.
On Giztop, specifically, the Redmi Tubo 5 Max with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is going for $399. Xiaomi is selling this base configuration of the Dimensity 9500s in China for CNY 2,199, around $317. The top-end config, with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, costs $519 on Giztop, while it's available in China for CNY 2,799, about $403.
The import price for the base configuration is quite reasonable, but there are some factors to consider before importing the phone. While there will be support for English and other languages, the imported Redmi Turbo 5 Max will ship with the Chinese version of HyperOS, meaning there will be China-focused pre-installed apps and bloatware.
As many users note, the Chinese version of HyperOS also has notification issues, but the good part is that most of them can be fixed by changing the power settings. Another important consideration is that there won't be support for Android Auto out of the box, which most global Xiaomi phones have.
On the bright side, Giztop notes that the phone will ship with Google Play Store and Google Mobile Service installed. With the Chinese version of HyperOS installed, this imported Redmi Turbo 5 Max will also get updates earlier than the global Xiaomi phones.
Regarding the phone itself, the 6.83-inch AMOLED display, 50MP primary camera, and 9,000mAh battery with 100W fast charging (300W Anker 26K Prime power bank curr. $171.48 on Amazon) are among the main highlights of the Redmi Turbo 5 Max.
