Xiaomi has unveiled a new version of the POCO M4 Pro at MWC 2022 alongside the X4 Pro 5G. While the POCO M4 Pro (4G) shares its name with the M4 Pro 5G, the two differ in numerous areas. For one, the 4G model has an AMOLED panel; the M4 Pro 5G relies on an IPS display instead. Additionally, the new M4 Pro' display measures 6.43-inches across, making it 0.17-inches smaller than the M4 Pro 5G.
Accordingly, the new M4 Pro is much smaller than its 5G sibling. Still, the M4 Pro continues to offer a 1080p and 90 Hz display, although its brightness peaks at 1,000 nits, compared to the 450 nits that the M4 Pro 5G offers. Incidentally, a 16 MP front-facing camera sits beneath a centred notch, which Xiaomi complements with a 64 MP primary sensor, an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2 MP macro camera.
Moreover, the new M4 Pro has a 5,000 mAh battery that it can recharge at 33 W. Also, the M4 Pro relies on a MediaTek Helio G96, a weaker SoC than the Dimensity 810 in the 5G model. Funnily enough, the Helio G96 and Dimensity 810 feature the same CPU and GPU cores. However, the latter has higher CPU clock speeds and is manufactured on a 6 nm node. By contrast, MediaTek builds the Helio G96 on a 12 nm process. As such, the M4 Pro may not be as energy-efficient as its 5G namesake.
The POCO M4 Pro (4G) starts at €199 with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, an early bird price that will be available from March 2. Alternatively, Xiaomi will also offer the M4 Pro (4G) with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB storage for €249 through numerous retailers and on its website.
