MWC 2022 | POCO X4 Pro 5G arrives with a downgraded Qualcomm SoC, Android 11 and an AMOLED display
POCO has revealed the X4 Pro 5G as part of its MWC 2022 online event. Leaked in its entirety earlier this month, the POCO X4 Pro 5G has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Like other Xiaomi smartphones, the POCO X4 Pro 5G has a 2,400 x 1,080-pixel panel with a 20:9 aspect ratio. Incidentally, the POCO X4 Pro 5G also offers a 360 Hz touch sampling rate, along with 700 nits typical maximum brightness and 1,200 nits peak luminosity.
While the POCO X4 Pro 5G has a superior display compared to the POCO X3 Pro, the former features somewhat of a downgraded SoC. To recap, the POCO X3 Pro relies on the Snapdragon 860, an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 855. By contrast, Xiaomi has equipped the POCO X4 Pro 5G with the Snapdragon 695, a 6 nm SoC that replaces the Snapdragon 690. While we have not reviewed the Snapdragon 695 yet, the Snapdragon 690 only offers 69% the performance of the Snapdragon 860.
Additionally, the POCO X4 Pro 5G has a 108 MP primary camera, an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2 MP macro sensor, along with a 16 MP front-facing lens. For reference, the POCO X3 Pro has a 48 MP primary camera, an 8 MP ultra-wide, dual 2 MP depth and macro sensors and a 20 MP front-facing camera. As expected, the POCO X4 Pro 5G has a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 67 W fast charging.
The POCO X4 Pro 5G will be available in two memory configurations and three colours Xiaomi calls Laser Blue, Laser Black and POCO Yellow. Unfortunately, it is unknown when Xiaomi will begin selling the POCO X4 Pro 5G. However, the smartphone will start at €269 with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Please note that this is an early-bird price. Unsurprisingly, Xiaomi has kept quiet the fact that the POCO X4 Pro 5G launches with MIUI 13 based on Android 11, not the newer Android 12.
