Xiaomi Poco M8x is launching soon with faux leather back and brand-new ARM chip

Xiaomi will soon be adding another sister model to the Poco M8 5G ($262 on Amazon), as the tech giant has already listed the brand-new Poco M8x 5G on the Indian online retailer Flipkart ahead of the device’s official launch on Friday, August 21. The mid-range smartphone features an eye-catching design, with the back covered in green faux leather and the frame and rectangular camera module finished in gold.
The Poco M8x 5G is likely to be positioned as a relatively affordable mid-range smartphone, as the camera module houses only one camera and two tiny, and thus presumably merely decorative, sensors. Xiaomi is equipping the device with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, a relatively new 4-nm ARM chip that features two ARM Cortex-A78 performance cores with boost clock speeds of up to 2.4 GHz, as well as six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores running at 2.0 GHz. Xiaomi touts 43 percent faster app launches compared to its direct predecessor.
A graphite heat sink is designed to ensure acceptable performance even under sustained load, such as during gaming. It’s somewhat misleading that the Poco M8x 5G is advertised as having 12 GB of RAM, when in fact the smartphone only offers 6 GB of RAM, which is supplemented by up to 6 GB of swap. Xiaomi has not yet confirmed any further details regarding the rest of the device’s specifications. Rumors point to a 6.9-inch IPS display with 720p+ resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate, as well as a 6,000 mAh battery that can be charged via USB-C at up to 33 watts.
