Waterproof KingKong Dura allows battery swaps without removing the back cover

Rugged outdoor smartphones like the Cubot KingKong Star ($685 on Amazon) typically rely on particularly large batteries, which, however, cannot be easily replaced. The brand-new KingKong Dura takes a different approach. Although the battery’s 5,000 mAh capacity is only average, it can be removed directly from the case using a slider.
Since the back of the battery becomes part of the smartphone’s casing, you don’t even have to remove the back cover. This has the major advantage that, if the battery runs out, you can simply insert a new, fully charged battery instead of having to find an outlet or connect a power bank. Batteries can also be charged in a charging station outside the smartphone.
Despite its modular design, the case is certified to both MIL-STD-810H and IP69K standards and is therefore waterproof. The Cubot KingKong Dura will be released on September 1, 2026, and will initially be sold exclusively through TikTok Shop. According to GSMArena, the rugged smartphone features an IPS display with a 6.88-inch diagonal, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and a resolution of 1,640 x 720 pixels.
The mid-range smartphone is said to feature a 64-megapixel main camera, a 16-megapixel selfie camera, and a Unisoc T620 processor with two Cortex-A75 performance cores and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. It also reportedly comes with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card.
