Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G launch teased as European retailers reveal pricing
It turns out that Xiaomi was not ready to launch another 'Lite' branded smartphone. As we reported last week, the company's Azerbaijani subsidiary announced the Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G, a follow-up to the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE. Incidentally, the Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G should compete with the Nothing Phone (1), which will debut on July 12.
Currently, Xiaomi and CEO Lei Jun have only confirmed that the Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G 'is coming', although it is unclear when. Presumably not due for release alongside the Xiaomi 12S series globally, Xiaomi has started marketing the Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G with phrases like 'Pretty Stylish. Pretty Lite.', 'Designed for light, loved for style' and 'My style, my shot'. Also, Xiaomi has hinted at the smartphone's colour options, already revealed last week as grey, turquoise and pink.
Meanwhile, European retailers have started listing the Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G on their websites, revealing the smartphone's approximate price tag. On the one hand, Orange Spain has priced the handset at €506 with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, including 21% VAT. In other words, Orange Spain suggests that the Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G should retail for €418.18, excluding VAT. Assuming 19% VAT reduces the price to €497.63, making a harmonised €499 seem likely.
Conversely, evoMAG.ro has listed the smartphone for RON 2,284.99 (~€462), including 19% VAT. However, this price is for the 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage configuration. For context, the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE arrived last year for €399.90 with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. You can read more about the Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G's features in last week's coverage.
