Although Fimi is not as well-known as DJI, it is not completely unknown either, having released models such as the Fimi Mini 3 in the past. Although the new Fimi X8 Tele Max is not yet officially available, the drone is available for direct import for just under $525. Shipping is free and import fees are included, but buyers should keep in mind that the chances of enforcing warranty rights in the event of a claim are very slim and that shipping from China may take up to two months. As always, users should familiarize themselves with the recreational drone rules in their country (see here for the rules in the USA and here for the rules in Australia) before making a purchase - not only in regard to general permissibility, but also in regard to no-fly zones.
The Fimi X8 Tele Max comes with two cameras: the F/1.6 main camera with its 48 MP is accompanied by a telephoto camera with a focal length of 120 millimeters (35 mm equivalent). A digital zoom of up to 30x is possible via the telephoto lens. Depending on the battery used, the drone weighs around 760 or 832 grams, well exceeding the 250-gram threshold for micro drones. A maximum ascent speed of 5 m/s is specified, while the vertical flight speed is said to be up to 18 m/s. The maximum wind speed resistance is given as 12 m/s and the battery life is specified as up to 38-47 minutes, depending on various factors.
A gimbal is available, which should ensure smooth recordings even when moving or during windy conditions. Time-lapse recordings and 4K video at 60 frames per second are also possible. Tracking and flight planning with GPS support are supported. Additional modules such as a speaker and a 4G modem can be installed. The RokLink 5.0 system promises a range of up to 12.4 miles or 20 kilometers.
