Wyze Bulb Cam combines a security camera and smart bulb into one device

While smart bulbs that double as security cameras are not new, no mainstream brand has offered one until now. Wyze has announced the Bulb Cam which combines a smart light bulb and security camera into one device that connects to a light fixture (E26).

The Bulb Cam has an 800 lumen LED bulb whose brightness can be adjusted with the Wyze app. The bulb has a color temperature of 3000K and can be scheduled to come on at a preset time. There's also support for motion-activation.

The camera portion of the Bulb Cam is a 2K (2304 x 1296) HD camera with a 160° field of view. While it doesn't automatically pan or tilt, users can manually extend the camera, rotate it, or tilt it for the best possible view. The camera has IR night vision, color night vision, and digital zoom.

It also has motion detection, and if you pay for Wyze's Cam Unlimited Pro, you can get AI notifications and descriptive alerts. The Bulb Cam can also flash its light and activate the built-in siren to scare people away. There's also 2-way audio, allowing you to interact with guests and vice versa.

Wyze also offers what it calls Accessory Bulbs that work exclusively with the Bulb Cam. Up to five Accessory Bulbs can be connected to a single Bulb Cam and controlled together. Features such as brightness, schedules, and motion activation are tied to the Bulb Cam, allowing them to function as a group light.

The Bulb Cam has support for a MicroSD card for local storage. Users can insert up to a 32GB capacity microSD card (available on Amazon for $11.96) in FAT32 format and up to a 256GB capacity microSD card in exFAT format. Other features are an IP65 dust and water resistance rating, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 4.2, and Bluetooth LE. It has an operating temperature of -20°C to 50°C.

Wyze is currently selling the Bulb Cam for $49.98 and the Accessory Bulb for $16.98. However, you can purchase a Bulb Cam and Accessory Bulb combo for $64.98 instead of $66.96 on its website. It also offers the Accessory Bulb in a pack of two for $29.98 instead of $33.96 and a pack of 3 for $36.99 instead of $50.94.
