One of the largest smartwatch manufacturers in the world hopes to shake up the smartphone market with its wristphone, intended to be an alternative to the ever-growing amount of smartphones and housing the necessary features in the format of an Apple Watch.

Smartwatches are becoming more powerful from year to year, but apart from the small display, the relatively limited software prevents these watches from replacing smartphones. Even the second generation Apple Watch or Google Pixel Watch can only run a very limited selection of apps.

Applications such as banking apps are lacking, making most smartwatches hardly suitable as a smartphone replacement. Fire-Boltt, the world's second-largest smartwatch manufacturer after Apple (but ahead of Huawei), has now published a teaser website for its upcoming wristphone and doesn't skimp on superlatives such as "revolution". At least in terms of design, the Indian tech giant clearly draws inspiration from the Apple Watch, specifically from the almost-square display to the rounded front glass on all four sides to the positioning of the digital crown.

Even the mechanism for changing the straps is very much reminiscent of the Apple Watch. Fire-Boltt promises innovation elsewhere, as the manufacturer clearly states (in the tweet embedded below) that the smartwatch will be able to replace a smartphone. While no hardware or launch date details have been revealed, Fire-Boltt is likely to utilize Android instead of Wear OS in order to circumvent the software limitations of traditional smartwatches.

It remains to be seen how well Google's smartphone operating system will work on a device with such a small display because third-party apps are unlikely to be optimized for smartwatch-sized screens. This could make operation quite cumbersome if Fire-Boltt doesn't find a solution. The wristphone is expected to be officially presented "shortly".
