Apple's first virtual reality headset will be shipping soon, at least in the US. Apple has now confirmed details of the launch, including the storage and headband variants, the prices for dioptric correction lenses and the features that will be available at launch.

The Apple Vision Pro will be available for pre-order in the US from January 19, with shipping starting on February 2. Although Apple has not yet confirmed any details about the sales launch in Europe, it is using the upcoming launch in the US to confirm a few new details about the prices and variants of the headset.

Apparently, the Vision Pro will only be available with 256 GB of storage, which is relatively small considering that the Apple M2 is practically a Mac inside. As announced, the headset costs $3499. Those who need dioptric correction can order suitable Zeiss lenses for between $99 and $149. Apple supplies both the Solo Knit Band and a Dual Loop Band so that users can try out for themselves which headband offers better comfort.

Somewhat unusual for Apple is that the Vision Pro comes with a microfiber cloth, a USB-C cable, a charger, an external battery and two pads to block out light between the headset and eyes. After Apple had stated that the battery would last 2 hours under "normal use", the company has now added that 2.5 hours are possible when playing videos.

Alternatively, the Vision Pro can be powered via a USB-C cable. Most of the advertised features are likely be available at launch, including the virtual backgrounds that can be activated at any time by turning the digital crown instead of having to display the surrounding environment.

According to Apple, apps such as Microsoft 365, Slack, Disney+ and more than 250 games will be available via Apple Arcade at launch. While most of these games are simply displayed on a virtual 2D display and operated with a controller, there are also some games that have been specially developed for Vision Pro, such as Game Room, What the Golf? and Super Fruit Ninja. The Apple TV app offers over 150 3D movies.
