A report from Japanese media has quoted a Chinese leaker based on Weibo who has revealed a somewhat startling but pleasing leak about the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 III. A snippet of information, which appears to come from a certification website such as TENAA, details the apparent RAM configurations of the Xperia 1 III, operating system, and storage amounts. It seems Sony has been generous in the memory department and turned the dial right up to 16 GB.
Although there are quite a few phones out there boasting of 16 GB RAM, such as the abovementioned trio, it’s not likely many would have expected the Sony Xperia 1 III to join that particular group. Snapdragon 888 crowd? Yes. Smartphones with a superlative display? Of course. Rowdy bunch with 16 GB RAM? Likely not. Even the base model of the Xperia 1 III can apparently expect a good RAM bump from the Xperia 1 II – with 8 GB being boosted to a very respectable 12 GB.
So the Sony Xperia 1 III, which unsurprisingly will come running on Android 11, will have 12 GB and 16 GB RAM variants and purportedly offer storage options of 256 GB and 512 GB. There are many Xperia fans who would love to see this brand become as strong as it used to be over half a decade ago, and it is something of a business miracle that Sony hasn’t given up the ghost yet in the smartphone market. With the Xperia 1 III sporting narrower bezels than its predecessor, these highest-of-end specs, and a likely beautiful display (but what about the camera equipment, Sony?), it should attract buyers even with its rumored US$1,199 price tag.
