The Sony Xperia 1 III leaks once again in 360 degree video
Sony is apparently planning to release several smartphones in the next few months, following the Xperia PRO's long-awaited launch. Two of the company's next smartphones will be a new compact Xperia and the Xperia 10 III, although the former is probably not a return to the Xperia XZ2 Compact. However, a successor to the Xperia 1 II is planned too, as OnLeaks teased last week. Specifications of the so-called Xperia 1 III leaked in December, too.
Now, OnLeaks has published a 360° video of the Xperia 1 III, which we have embedded below. The new render confirms one previously unknown aspect of the device, its card tray. As far as we can tell, the Xperia 1 III will have the same pull-out card tray as its predecessor, negating the need for a SIM tool. The renders emphasise how similar the Xperia 1 III looks compared to the Xperia 1 II though, save for a new periscope camera. The five buttons on the device's right-hand side remain, for example, as does the 3.5 mm headphone jack.
According to previous leaks, Sony will swap the Snapdragon 865 of the Xperia 1 II for a Snapdragon 888, a chipset that almost flagship smartphones of 2021 will have. The inclusion of a microSD card reader, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a 21:9 aspect ratio will continue to distinguish Sony's most expensive smartphone from its peers though, in our opinion. OnLeaks states that Sony will announce the Xperia 1 III 'in a few weeks', with the Xperia 10 III and the smaller Xperia also in attendance at the same event. We imagine Sony will release an Xperia 5 III in the second half of 2021 too.
