What is with all the Google Pixel 4 leaks this week?
The volume of supposed Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL leaks is becoming silly. As we enter the season when Google is expected to unveil its next flagship series, there have already been three months of reasonably reliable leaks. Google first teased the Pixel 4 in early June seemingly in response to renders posted by OnLeaks. A few days later pictures of a device resembling the Pixel 4 appeared online, with someone claiming to have spotted it being used on public transport in London.
Since then, OnLeaks has published more detailed Pixel 4 series renders, while pictures of several screen protectors leaked. Google confirmed that it was bringing Project Soli to the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL too, and yesterday a picture appeared online confirming that an orange variant has been worked on alongside the obligatory black and white SKUs. Moreover, it has only been a week since photos showing the front and back of what claimed to be the Pixel 4 were picked up by Slashleaks and reported by XDA Developers.
Now, leaks about the Pixel 4 series have not reached Pixel 3 series levels, but their increased frequency on the run-up to their unveiling is bordering on the ridiculous. Setting the probable fake Geekbench listing aside, there have been five leaks in as many days. Slashleaks has posted two "hands-on" videos of the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, which may have originated from Vietnam, while @BenGeskin has posted another photo of the front and back of the orange Pixel 4. Additionally, XDA Developers has published photos showing the Pixel 4 to have 6 GB of RAM, a rumour on which we have already reported, and a rear-facing camera that supports up to 8x zoom. While the Google camera app has pointed towards the Pixel 4 having a telephoto lens, it is worth keeping in mind that this photo may be of doctored UI. If the photo is genuine, then it just shows that the Pixel 4 is capable of 8x zoom, but not necessarily 8x optical zoom.
At this stage, all we definitely know about the Pixel 4 series is that which Google has already confirmed. Any other leaks, including those about the Pixel 4 and 4 XL will have 90 Hz displays, and 6 GB of RAM may not come to fruition.
