Waveshare: 8.8-inch wide capacitive touchscreen targets wall panel and gang switch systems, works with Raspberry Pi

We have seen Waveshare launch similar smart home displays like the 7-inch 1080 × 1080 LCD module, or the ESP32-P4-WIFI6-Touch-LCD-4.3-C, designed for smart home applications, but those boards are either chunky like a tablet or big and rounded, which may not be aesthetically pleasing in a smart home environment.
That is why this new “8.8-inch DSI LCD” is different; the stretched bar-like 4:1 aspect ratio blends perfectly with the home interior and can be used with various digital signage, dashboards, kiosks, or narrow interfaces.
The display directly connects to a Raspberry Pi via the onboard MIPI DSI connector and uses the I2C interface for the 10-points of touch. The company also mentions that the default display orientation is set to portrait, though it can be readily switched to landscape mode via software configuration.
Waveshare also mentions that, like other displays, this supports optical bonding and a toughened glass panel with up to a 6H hardness rating, which helps minimize reflections and dust ingress. Additionally, display brightness can be adjusted directly via software.
Talking about software, the display is plug-and-play and driver-free on newer versions of Raspberry Pi OS, and it's also fully compatible with Raspberry Pi 4B, Raspberry Pi 5, and the Compute Module 4 (CM4) IO Board. The display board can be powered via 5V pogo pins on the Pi 4B and Pi 5, or through the CM4 IO board's 5V GPIO pins, so there is no need for a separate power supply.
The 8.8-inch capacitive touch display is available on the Waveshare store for $79.99. It's also available on Amazon for $99.99 and on AliExpress for $75.20.
