Waveshare: New smart home display features a round 7-inch panel

The new 7-inch touch display is officially called 7inch 1080x1080 LCD, featuring a 1080 x 1080 IPS panel with wide 160° viewing angles and peak brightness of 800 nits. Touch input is handled via a capacitive mesh layer. A 6H toughened glass panel with optical bonding is said to improve overall durability, dust resistance, and image clarity by minimizing reflections.
A PCB on the rear includes standoffs for the Raspberry Pi and also provides standard HDMI input for video. as well as a dual USB-C interface for touch and power. Additionally, there is a 3.5 mm audio output jack, a 4-pin speaker header, two physical buttons for power and for screen rotation, and software controls for display brightness.
Waveshare states that the display supports driver-free plug-and-play operation with devices such as Raspberry Pi, Jetson boards, Windows PCs, and laptops, but explicitly notes that Ubuntu, Kali, Windows 10 IoT, and the Jetson series only support single-point touch, not 10-point touch.
Potential buyers should consider how the display integrates into their software ecosystem, since devices such as the Raspberry Pi series and other development boards, and Windows PCs natively output rectangular aspect ratios, which may lead to clipped corners and scaling issues unless custom software is developed. Generally, Waveshare provides software support on its wiki page, but for this particular product, software is still under development. The unusual 1080 x 1080 circular format is mostly for custom UI projects rather than a standard desktop environment.
The Waveshare 7-inch round display is available from Waveshare’s official store for $159.99.
