Valve promises to ship "more than double the number of Steam Decks" as it finishes sending Q2 reservation emails
If you’ve been eyeing up the Steam Deck but couldn’t get one due to the long wait times, Valve has some good news for you. Valve has announced that it will be increasing Steam Deck’s production significantly, shipping more than double the number of Decks every week. Seeing as how the handheld is the best-selling product on Steam, it is not surprising that demand is super strong, prompting Valve to ramp up production.
Valve launched the Steam Deck in February of this year at a time when, although not as bad as the previous years, the semiconductor shortage was causing widespread product shortages and price hikes. Thankfully, the situation has improved by quite a large margin, resulting in a much-improved supply of components like GPUs and their subsequent price cuts. We expect the increased availability of components is what's making this bump in production of the Steam Deck possible.
According to a Twitter post from the official Steam Deck account, the company announced that it has “just sent the last batch of Q2 emails, and we’ll start sending Q3 reservation emails on the 30th.” Although Valve still maintains October 2022 as the availability date, expect the company to ship out consoles to customers much sooner.
