Ultra-thin aramid protection: Pitaka cases for the Samsung Galaxy Z8 Series review

In testing, the Pitaka Classic protective cases impressed with their flawless craftsmanship, premium aramid feel, and precise fit. Anyone looking for an almost weightless case that preserves the slim profile of the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Flip models while also offering MagSafe compatibility will be hard-pressed to find a better alternative.

However, the clear limitations should not be overlooked. Due to their design, the cases offer only minimal drop protection. The material provides excellent protection against scratches and light impacts, but the ultra-thin walls offer very little cushioning in the event of a drop from a greater height onto hard concrete. In addition, the foldables' hinges remain completely exposed by design and are therefore unprotected.

The biggest criticism, however, is the steep price. At around 80 euros, Pitaka sits firmly in the premium segment. Judged purely on protective performance, that price is difficult to justify; much of what you are paying for is the elaborate material construction, low weight, and aesthetic form factor. Those looking for maximum drop protection are better served by cheaper, albeit thicker, alternatives. Those who prioritize uncompromising elegance and grip, on the other hand, will have to pay a substantial premium.

Pitaka’s protective cases have a suggested retail price of around 80 euros and are available directly from the manufacturer’s online store as well as from Amazon.

Pitaka’s aramid-fiber (Kevlar) protective cases are among the slimmest and most premium options available for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. For the three variants tested here, the manufacturer uses its proven vacuum-forming process in combination with its own weaving technology.

While the classic model features the familiar black-and-gray look and a particularly fine fiber structure, the Sunset and Moonrise versions incorporate colored accents directly into the aramid weave using Pitaka’s Fusion Weaving technology. All three variants share the same thin construction and feature embedded magnets for MagEZ and MagSafe compatibility without adding much bulk to the foldable design. Unlike the cases for the Galaxy S26 series, there is no integrated Aaron button.

The Pitaka Classic Case for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 in Black Gray (600D Edge) has a minimalist, understated design. Pitaka uses fine aramid fiber with a distinctive weave pattern in classic black and dark gray. Thanks to the special 3D Grip coating, the surface has a velvety-matte feel and a pleasantly grippy texture that gives the often-slippery foldable smartphone noticeably more grip. In everyday use, this version of the material is largely resistant to fingerprints, although they can still be seen. On the colored models, they are barely noticeable. The seamlessly integrated MagEZ magnetic structure allows unrestricted use of MagSafe- and PixelSnap-compatible accessories without adding noticeable bulk.

In terms of fit, the two-piece protective case fits the Galaxy Z Fold8 almost like a custom-made shell and can be secured more firmly using the pre-applied adhesive strips if desired. The rear section precisely surrounds the camera module and protects the protruding lenses from direct contact with table surfaces with a very slightly raised edge. All cutouts for the USB-C port, speakers, and side-mounted fingerprint sensor are precisely positioned and do not interfere with operation. The folding mechanism remains completely unaffected whether the phone is open or closed, as the case ends just before the hinge and preserves the smartphone’s slim profile. A front frame is not included. The case weighs just 17.6 grams and measures 1.1 mm thick.

The Pitaka Classic Case for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is available, among other options, in the Sunset 2.0 design with woven color accents in the aramid fiber. Build quality and material quality are on the same high level as with the standard Fold8 model: Pitaka’s Fusion Weaving technology creates a seamlessly woven, three-dimensional texture with excellent grip and strong abrasion resistance. Despite the integrated MagEZ magnetic structure, the case remains lightweight at 23.7 g and ultra-thin at 1.2 mm.

In terms of fit, the protective case is specifically tailored to the subtle differences in the Ultra model’s chassis. The rear section surrounds the camera unit without any gaps and reliably protects the lenses from scratches. The precisely positioned cutouts keep the buttons, ports, and fingerprint sensor fully accessible. As with the standard Fold8, the case leaves the hinge completely unobstructed during folding.

The Pitaka Classic Case for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip demonstrates how precisely aramid fiber can be crafted for clamshell foldables. The case uses the familiar, extremely fine weave pattern with a matte finish that provides very good grip and is resistant to abrasion from everyday use. The MagEZ magnetic structure is integrated so flush that the flip phone’s compact profile is fully preserved; at just 1.2 mm thick, the case adds hardly any bulk. It also weighs only 17.6 g.

The fit of the two-piece shell is very well adapted to the specific requirements of the folding mechanism. The lower half fits the phone like a second skin, while the upper shell precisely frames the external display and camera lenses without restricting visibility or touch operation. All cutouts for the buttons and ports are precisely finished. The hinge remains completely unobstructed, allowing the smartphone to open and close as smoothly as usual.
