Garmin has released the Tread 2 Overland Edition and Tread 2 SxS Edition navigators in the US. The original Tread 2 Powersport was launched late in 2024 as an off-road device designed for vehicles like motorcycles, side-by-sides and snowmobiles.
The new Tread 2 Overland Edition and SxS Edition devices have a larger 8-inch screen with a 1,280 x 800 px resolution; the original model had a 6-inch screen. These screens are also said to be brighter, though exact measurements are not provided. The display supports dual orientation and is marketed as glove-friendly.
The Tread 2 gadgets come with off-road maps across North America. Users can get turn-by-turn navigation for routes from OpenStreetMap, U.S. Forest Service Motor Vehicle Use Maps, Adventure Roads and Trails. You can also download satellite imagery of your route, view public land boundaries and get customized routing for your vehicle and alerts for hazards. There is a database of over 46,000 camping spots. On top of that, in the Tread mobile app, you can use Great Rides to find and log the best off-road spots where you can rate the trail difficulty and upload photos.
The Garmin Tread 2 Overland Edition can be attached to a dashboard using a suction cup and locking magnet-assisted mount. Meanwhile, the Garmin Tread 2 SxS Edition comes with a tube mount kit. They have an IP6X dust and water resistant rating, running for up to 6 hours at 50% backlight thanks to a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Plus, the navigators work with some of Garmin’s other products, like Outdoor Maps+, inReach satellite communication devices, and the Garmin GPS dog tracker.
You can now buy the Garmin Tread 2 Overland Edition and the Garmin Tread 2 SxS Edition navigators in the US for $999.99 each. That makes them $300 more expensive than the Tread 2 Powersport, which sells for $699.99 at retailers like Amazon.
