Despite the coronavirus crisis, quite a few laptops featuring the new Ryzen 4000 APUs from AMD are now starting to pop up for pre-orders at various online retailers, while many publications are already receiving review units. The first models to get extensive reviews come from Asus, but if you are looking for more budget-friendly gaming models under US$1,000, you may want to check the new MSI Bravo models that are up for pre-order at Newegg.
MSI’s updated Bravo lineup clearly is not as feature-packed as the Asus models, yet they do appear more appealing to budget-oriented users, providing quite the value for just under US$1,000. The 15.6-inch all-AMD laptops come equipped with 120 Hz 1080p IPS panels (Free-Sync compatible) and integrate the Radeon RX 5500M dGPU with 4 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. As far as differences go, the more expensive model includes the Ryzen 7 4800H octa-core / 16-thread APU coupled with 16 GB of DDR4-2666 RAM, while the other model features the Ryzen 5 4600H hexa-core / 12-thread APU coupled with 8 GB of RAM (expandable to 64 GB via 2 slots).
Other standard features on both variants include:
- 512 GB NVMe SSD storage
- Wi-Fi 6 + Bluetooth 5.0 + GbE jack
- Port selection: 2x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, 2x USB-C 3.2 Gen 1, HDMI video out, dual audio jacks
- 720p webcam
- Red backlit keyboard
- 3-cell 51 Wh battery
- 4.1 lbs weight
The Ryzen 5 4600H model is available for pre-orders at $929, and the Ryzen 7 4800H variant is only $70 more expensive. Do note that these devices will only be shipped by April 29 and there is a limit of 1 per account.
