US brand Trek Bicycle has announced the launch of two new trail platforms: the Fuel and the Fuel+. Both are redesigned from the ground up and now introduce geometry-specific modularity across three configurations (EX, MX, LX), expanding beyond what was available on the previous Fuel and Fuel EXe models. The Fuel is a traditional analog bike, while the Fuel+ is its electric counterpart, equipped with a new TQ HPR60 motor and larger 580Wh battery with support for Trek’s 160Wh Range Extender.
The new lineup is split into three variants - EX, MX, and LX - each tuned for different rider needs. The EX setup has a balanced configuration with 145mm rear and 150mm front suspension. MX uses mixed wheel sizes (29" front, 27.5" rear) and a more progressive shock curve, while the LX is the longest-travel option with 160mm rear and 170mm front suspension.
Trek is offering these new bikes as part of its Project One MTB program, letting buyers configure components like drivetrain, suspension, cockpit, wheels, and more. High-end versions (Fuel, Fuel+, and Supercaliber) are available in carbon, while the Fuel 9 comes in aluminum.
For the Fuel+, the key update is the move away from the previous Fuel EXe platform. The integrated 60Nm HPR60 motor has been carried over but now pairs with an upgraded 580Wh battery. According to Trek, that brings better performance under load, and a longer range for extended trail days. A built-in LED display from TQ is also included on the 9.8 and 9.9 models.
Frame updates include a universal dropper post fit, new internal storage designs, and options for adjustable geometry. Riders can choose different rocker links and cockpit setups, with adjustable head tube angles included. Both models also use the new Zero Stack headset standard.
The new Fuel and Fuel+ bikes are available now at Trek retailers and online in select markets through trekbikes.com.
